The Hottest Color Trends of 2017
I obviously like to keep up with the current design trends and stay on top of the new home models and what is in style. The trend this year is a whole lot of color; whereas last year even had white as a color choice. My own recently renovated home is a whole lot of “Greige” (grey-beige) and grey-blues but I’m boring have always tended to the cool colors with a grey undertone. Except my first home was a brilliant shade of yellow! And yellow is on trend again!
Keeping up with the current paint trends allows you to find accessories in the same colors. So if you are redecorating your home, you will find these most helpful.
Inspired by nature – think spring! Green is a stress reliever and great in the bathroom to create that “spa” feel. This is Valspar Crushed Oregano – a very warm, yellow undertoned, spring green.
Benjamin Moore’s color of the year, a very dark purple called Shadow. It adds stunning drama to a room. It would work well in a dining room, powder room, or bedroom.
If you don’t want to go dark purple, consider a lighter purple/lavender. It brings a smooth serenity to the room and would be an excellent choice for a bedroom. In my previous home, I had the guest bedroom painted a similar color. The room had lots of light, French doors to a veranda, and lots of fluffy white linens. This color is PPG Paints Violet Verbena.
Benjamin Moore’s “Stormy Monday” is on trend again this year. While a neutral, it definitely isn’t boring and has a warm undertone that would go with any flooring choice. This would mix well with just about any color but especially with the new spring green and deep reds/purples.
Crisp and modern but more dramatic than its lighter shade. Grey is still the neutral of choice. The American Society of Interior Designs votes on a color every year and this year they have chosen, Kelly Moore paints “Kettleman.”
Red is back on the charts! I love red, its so dramatic no matter what the tone. This is a great compliment to the grey-beige-taupe-dark grey trends. Farrow & Ball chose “Radicchio” to be their color of the year.
Beautiful, sunny, warm, happy YELLOW! Most people think of yellow as a country color but it can also work well with more industrial and modern furnishings and especially with grey. Think of how the past years pink was the pop of color. This is Benjamin Moore’s version called Amulet.
And there you have it – the top paint color selections from the paint companies and designers. I hope you enjoyed my article and Happy Painting!
