What I Love About Summerlin

Having moved to Las Vegas in 2002, I chose to reside in Summerlin, a master- planned community on the western slope of the Las Vegas valley.  I enjoy Summerlin very much – the amenities, restaurants, events and shopping. In my free time, I can be found playing tennis, at a Summerlin park with my rescue dog Barclay, taking in an outdoor concert, rooting for the Aviators or dining with friends in Downtown Summerlin.

Having grown up in the midwest, Summerlin seemed like a brand new world.  I fondly refer to it as the biosphere because you literally have everything you need within a short distance so you never need to leave.  With so many trails you can easily get just about anywhere on foot or bike.  Summerlin is a Las Vegas suburb but still a 20 minute drive to The Strip for shopping, entertainment and dining.

Downtown Summerlin

A vibrant walkable urban center in the heart of community, Summerlin’s most active urban destination is waiting to be explored. A diverse, world-class and homegrown mix of shops, restaurants, indoor and outdoor venues and events, including the Las Vegas Ballpark® and City National Arena, home to the Golden Knights practice facility.  My favorite restaurants include a wine bar, Grape Street, Trattoria Reggianno with an open patio area and live music on the weekends, and of course Lazy Dog which even has a menu for your furry friend.   All about DTS.

Red Rock Conservatory

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has more than 200,000 acres of climbing routes, hiking, cycling and equestrian trails, a beautiful Visitor Center and some amazing Rock Stars – the resident desert tortoises.  Its an amazing place and I have spent many Sunday afternoon hiking with friends and even an occasional twilight hike with an experienced friend.  It also attracts lots of cyclist which ride “the loop” as well as trail bike riders.  All about Red Rock Canyon.

Amenities

A world of lifestyle opportunities awaits, unequaled anywhere else in Las Vegas. With endless neighborhood and community parks, Summerlin® offers everything from swimming pools and tot lots to baseball fields and basketball courts. Our parks and community centers hold a wide variety of social and recreational offerings, including events planned exclusively for Summerlin residents. When you call Summerlin home, you open your world up to dozens of special events, seasonal celebrations, classes, camps, athletic programming and more.  Summerlin Trail Map

Events

With a packed events calendar, you’ll never be short of fun things to do in Summerlin.  Each month there is a host of events.  You’ll find outdoor concerts, yoga on the yard, picnics, wine tasting, art festivals, craft shows, July fireworks show, Derby parties, fashion shows, Tastes of Summerlin and the farmer’s market.  The December holidays bring an ice rink, Santa Claus, a parade and beautiful trees and lighting.  There is always something happening!

The Homes

There is a great mix of condos, townhomes, single-family homes starting in the $200,000s and going all the way up to $20m.  Summerlin hosts 8 golf courses and six country clubs.  West Summerlin has views of Red Rock Canyon and Summerlin Centre is set around Downtown.  Summerlin broke ground in 1990 in the north and has some fantastic amenities such as tons of winding trails and its own little neighborhood shopping center including Starbucks which is a hub of dog walkers.  Brand new construction exists in South and West Summerlin.  Each village in Summerlin has something to offer as far as amenities and all have parks and trails.  There is truly something for everyone!
